Droplets leaving with the vapour represent product loss and can contaminate downstream equipment. A separation device must work with the product’s foam and fouling behaviour. The choice of internals depends on the operating envelope and cleaning access.

Maintenance access

Inspect and clean the selected internals using a validated procedure. A fouled separator can change pressure drop as well as carry-over. Make the return path for collected liquid part of the cleaning review.

Selection limit

A demister, cyclone or other device is not a universal solution for every foam or suspended-solid duty. Trials may be needed to establish acceptable separation.
