Feed, concentrate and evaporated water
Use a simple mass balance to establish a shared duty before comparing equipment.
State the mass basis
Conserved solids flow is feed mass flow multiplied by inlet mass fraction. Divide that solids rate by the outlet mass fraction to obtain concentrate flow. The difference between feed and concentrate is calculated water removal.
Losses, volatile components, entrainment, crystal withdrawal, added ingredients or accumulation need a more complete balance. These results do not determine circulation flow, heater area or suitability.
